During the manufacturing process, steel wire rope is coated with lubricant. However, it only protects the steel wire rope during storage and initial use. The steel wire rope must then be lubricated regularly. A good lubrication of steel wire rope is important for the life of the wire rope. Lubrication also has the purpose of protecting the steel wire rope against rust and reducing the friction between the strands and core in the steel wire rope. The oil used for relubrication must be free of acids and must not have a harmful effect on either the threads and/or the fiber core and, of course, the environment. At the same time, it is important that the oil has a consistency that allows the oil to penetrate the core and threads of the steel wire rope.
