What is a trolley used for?
A trolley is used as a suspension for a hoist or other lifting gear. It is often mounted either on the outside of the beam's flange or inside a profile. The trolley's wheels make it easy to move the hoist along the beam or profile, and thus provide a secure anchor point. Trolleys are available with different capacities and widths, so you can always find just the right jack that suits your lifting needs.
Which type of trolley suits your needs?
Manual trolley
A manual trolley is by far the most used type of trolley. The trolley is moved to the anchor point manually.
Hand chain trolley
A hand chain trolley is often very comparable to a manual trolley. With a hand-chain driven trolley, the trolley can be moved along the beam by manually pulling a chain that is guided around a feed wheel on the trolley.
Electric trolley
It is also possible to get an electric trolley that makes operation more ergonomic, faster and more efficient. This solution is often chosen when lifting heavy loads or with frequent use. The electric trolley is often built together with the hoist and is often controlled via a shared control unit – regardless of whether the hoist and the trolley are controlled via a pendant control or wire radio control unit.
Check this when using a treadmill:
Check the marking: A trolley must be marked with both the manufacturer, CE, WLL (lifting capacity), ID number and a date of the last inspection there for the past 12 months. In addition, also visually check that the running cat is free of any visible damage or defects. If you notice damage or defects, you should of course not use the cat walker.
Good advice when using a trolley:
Make sure that the distance between the wheels is correct, so that the trolley's wheels have optimal contact with the flange. In addition, you should check that the axle is locked so that the trolley is correctly positioned. The lifting gear used, e.g. hoist top hook, should be located in the middle of the suspension bolt connecting each side of the trolley. Never lift more than the trolley, and the remaining parts of the lifting gear incl. the beam, is rated to. Also remember that the vast majority of types of trolleys are designed for straight lifting only.
Can a trolley be used for lifting people?
Unless otherwise described on the product or in the user manual - then trolleys must not be used for lifting people or for lifting other living organisms.
Do trolleys also have a statutory inspection?
Yes, trolleys used in Denmark are under the same set of rules as all other lifting equipment and must therefore be inspected by an expert cf. the Danish Working Environment Authority's set of rules at least every 12 months.
