16 tips for safe use of Webbing Slings
Synthetic lifting slings (including round slings, lifting straps, and webbing slings) are typically made of nylon or polyester webbing and offer many advantages. A lifting sling provides strength, economy, load protection, and convenience in handling. Safety when using lifting slings is crucial – here are some tips to ensure safe use in practice:
- 1. Always prepare the lift carefully.
- 2. Check the load label to ensure that the WLL and length are correct.
- 3. Inspect the lifting slings for any defects before use. Never use a damaged or defective lifting strap.
- 4. Never overload!
- 5. Check that the load is centered on the lifting strap.
- 6. Use identical lifting straps for multi-part lifts.
- 7. Never tie knots in the lifting straps to shorten or lengthen them.
- 8. Never lift when the lifting slings are twisted or have knots.
- 9. Keep the stitching of the lifting slings free of the hook.
- 10. Protect the lifting slings from sharp edges and wear.
- 11. Avoid shock loads.
- 12. Do not pull a load in the lifting sling and do not drag the lifting slings along the ground.
- 13. Keep the lifting slings away from alkalis (e.g., ammonia and caustic soda).
- 14. Do not use the lifting slings at temperatures below -40°C and above 100°C.
- 15. Inspect the lifting slings after use and take them out of service if there is visible damage.
- 16. Before first use, the date and year of commissioning must be on the label.
Synthetic lifting straps are a great tool for lifting - and safe use is the key to the best result.
