CASE: Sand and salt water – no problem! At Aarsleff in Skagen

Since August 2013, Aarsleff has been involved in a major expansion of Skagen's Port facilities. When the contract, which has a value of 226 million danish kroner, is completed - the port's new facilities will consist of an area of 11 hectares, 450 meters of harbor quay and an 11 meter deep harbor basin. With the new harbor facility, cruise ships and cargo ships of up to 330 meters in length will be able to dock.

An important part of the large project consists of setting up 450 meters of sheet piling walls, which will form the basis of the new harbor quay. "In our work with setting up sheet pile walls, we use a lever hoists as the third string in a chain sling - that way we can control the length at the millimeter level - and can carry out the set-up easily and precisely" says Bo Jørgensen, Aarsleff's site foreman on the project.

"To date, they are lever hoists we have had"

- this was the statement from site chairman Bo Jørgensen after using Hadef lever hoists in connection with the expansion of Skagen Harbour.

"Since we constantly work in a harsh environment where our equipment is exposed to both sand and salt water, there are great demands to the equipment we use. We have been able to see this especially in the hoists that we use. The cheapest hoists don't last much more than a week - and the best up to six months", continues Bo Jørgensen. "We were therefore a little skeptical when Fyns Kran Udstyr came by with their new Hadef lever hoists, but we were ready to give it a chance - and today we are very happy that we did.

It turned out that the Hadeftaljen is to date the waist that has coped with the harsh environment best - and we have not yet been able to notice on it that it is exposed to salt water on a daily basis", says Bo Jørgensen.

According to FKU's sales consultant in North Jutland - Jens Munch, it is not surprising that Hadef's garbage detailer does the job so well. "The thing that most often goes wrong when a hoist has to give up in the face of salt water is that the brake and gear wheel rust together. On Hadef's pulleys, the brake and the gear wheel are one and the same unit – and thus there are simply no mechanical parts that can rust together in that way", says Jens Munch

"The tailgate is today our favorite piece of junk, and as a professional user of lifting equipment it is nice to see that you can still be presented with lifting equipment that can change the perception of what is the best on the market", concludes Bo Jørgensen.
