Yes, at Guldborgsund Wastewater Utility, a new Thern Crane solution has helped to create a better and safer working environment for the employees.
Guldborgsund Forsyning - streamlining and optimization
Part of Guldsund Forsyning's activities is the treatment of waste water from more than 32,000 properties in Falster and eastern Lolland, Denmark. The waste water is led via a large network of pipes to one of Guldborgsund Forsyning's treatment plants. Guldborgsund Forsyning has initiated an efficiency improvement of their existing treatment plant, and they will continuously reduce the number of plants so that they end up with 10-12 efficient and active treatment plants.
Already in 2019, Guldborgsund Forsyning started to make 4 of their treatment plants more efficient for a three-digit million amount in Danish kroner, i.a. the treatment plant at Marielyst, where we meet supervising plumbing/safety officer, Ivan Lauersen.
Efficiency and working environment go hand in hand
Guldborgsund Forsyning had the challenge of having to create a safer servicing of their stirrers, which had to take place in a very small work area surrounded by railings. The narrow space could also help to create dangerous situations for the employees during the servicing of the stirrers.
Could there perhaps be a better solution to this challenge?
Until now, the annual servicing of the stirrers had taken place using built-in hoisting units, and the location in the plant itself resulted in a minimal outlay and thus a short reach for the existing cranes.
Guldborgsund Forsyning, led by Ivan Laursen as supervising plumbing/safety employee, set about looking for an alternative way to handle the 3-400 kg stirrers in the treatment plants. In their search for a new and better solution, one particular thing was emphasized; namely the working environment.
In the search for a new solution, Ivan Laursen got in touch with Fyns Kran Udstyr and explained the challenges and wishes, as well as what their requirements for a collaboration partner in this project were.

One crane; many advantages
In collaboration with Fyns Kran Udstyr, Ivan Lauersen was fortunately able to ensure that the challenges were resolved, and part of the solution was a crane from American Thern; one crane solution with many advantages and a lot of other tricks.
The new solution at Guldborgsund Forsyning with the Thern crane helps to ensure a good and safe working environment, which was what Guldborgsund Forsyning had placed great emphasis on in their new solution. "It is much safer for our employees to work with the type of crane we have got now," says Ivan Laursen.
At the same time, Guldborgsund Forsyning got a safe solution without compromising on their wishes for the crane's properties, such as load and range. One of the many advantages of the Thern davit crane is that the same crane can be used over the entire facility, as it can be easily moved from one installed 'base' to another.

When the crane is not in use, it can therefore be packed up and stored safely from wind and weather - this means minimal maintenance and thus less resources for maintenance.
