CASE: Svanen

Test of a 100 meter high self-propelled crane

When the world's largest self-propelled crane, Svanen, had to test its lifting gear, Fyns Kran Udstyr A/S was called to do the job.

Svanen, which has a lifting capacity of 8,700 tonnes, like all other cranes and lifting gear, must be inspected once a year. Fyns Kran Udstyr A/S assigned two service technicians to the job. The two are respectively former sailor and shipbuilder, so they were both familiar with home despite the inspection taking place in the middle of the sea, specifically at the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm. Here, Svanen is in the process of hammering 111 offshore foundations 20 meters into the seabed.

The inspection was carried out and after replacing two giant wire slings the lifting gear was approved.
